Mirror – The Lost Shards

In the late 1800s, a group of scientists from around the world gathered in Paris to create a machine that would help illustrate and explore parallel universes. On July 10, 1878, they created a device known as "The Mirror". It was set to project hundreds of images at once in order to map all possibilities. Unfortunately, The Mirror never got off the ground because it was destroyed. In addition to being unstable and unreliable for its time period, it was also said that its creators had been too prideful when making it. Today, there remains only one object from the machine: an unfinished mirror fragment with no frame or backing. It's said that the fragment was left behind because the creators didn't have time to find a proper home for it during their hasty retreat. The Mirror fragment is made of glass, but is completely reflective on one side. The only problem is that nobody knows which side should be reflective. Some say it's safe to look at either side, while others swear by one orientation over the other. The truth is nobody has ever successfully determined its true purpose. The story of The Mirror may sound like something out of science fiction, but it's actually based on a real device invented in the 1800s. This device is called the "Thought Mirror", or "The Mirror of Truth", and is said to have been created by a group of scientists in Paris during the late 1800s. Some variations of this story say that The Mirror was invented in Berlin, Germany. Although it was never finished, some say the invention had so much potential that it sparked an era similar to today's computer era. The Thought Mirror supposedly used advances in technology which were ahead of their time, but nobody is quite sure how it worked. It's said that before The Mirror could be tested, it exploded due to some sort of malfunctioning power source. While it was never tested, some say the device was put into storage, and that it remained there for decades before eventually breaking. Some who came across the Thought Mirror assumed it to be an elaborate hoax, but even those who knew about its existence found it difficult to believe. Today, we still don't know much about The Mirror or what it could have done. What we do know is that The Mirror wasn't like any other mirror ever made: instead of simply re-projecting what's in front of you, this mirror would project anything and everything whether it's right or left into what-if worlds. The mirror would then project this image back into our world after a set amount of time had passed. It's said that The Mirror could even incinerate anything that was placed in front of it. After it had destroyed something, the item would remain ashes placed inside a glass ball. One thing's for sure: the Thought Mirror was incredibly unstable. Due to this fact, it was neither reliable nor consistent. Over time, its creators realized that The Mirror would often create different results for the same person. While most mirrors are designed to be consistent among many people, The Mirror wasn't designed to work so easily with everyone. It was still able to project an image consistently if someone held onto the mirror long enough for it to scan their image and learn how they looked. eccc085e13
